Founder

Bettina DuvalBettina Baig Duval

Founder Bettina Baig Duval brings political fundraising, advocacy, and organizational expertise to the helm of CALIFORNIA LIST. Prior to establishing CALIFORNIA LIST, she was the EMILY’s List representative for Southern California. In that capacity, Bettina’s responsibilities included membership development, strategy consultation, event planning and supervision, and overseeing the Majority Council Membership for those members who contribute $1,000 or more annually to EMILY’s List. During the 2000 Democratic Convention, Bettina organized the highly successful California Women Vote luncheon. The event was attended by over 1,000 people and attracted the support and participation of many key political women.

From her experience working for EMILY’S List, Bettina clearly understood the power of supporting women candidates and quickly recognized how many elected officials the state of California was losing. In 2002, Bettina invited a group of 15 friends to a luncheon to introduce her philosophy, CALIFORNIA LIST was born. This group later became known as the Founder’s Circle and is now the advisory group to the organization working with Bettina to build the network. For the past five years, Bettina has traveled the state focusing her energy to bring attention to CALIFORNIA LIST and further build membership.

Bettina is a member of the Women’s Political Committee, serves on the Board of Governors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica, is a Past President of the Junior League of Los Angeles, and is a member of the Everychild Foundation. Bettina is also a founding board member of ACCION, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing college counseling to Latino high school students.

Bettina received her BA in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley. As Campus Coordinator of the Associated Students of U. C. Berkeley Student Body, her partnership with the League of Women Voters put an end to ballot tampering and other campaign violations, and recreated a fair and just electoral process.

Bettina is a mother of four: Bennett, Elizabeth, Annie, and Christopher, all of whom have licked and stamped many envelopes for CALIFORNIA LIST.
